Ali Buckley's Franklin Cotbed Review

Let's face it, having a baby can be expensive. It is so important for parents to know there's longevity in their bigger purchases, like furniture. Luckily for you we have the perfect solution. Read our Franklin Cotbed review written by our Parent Approved Panelist Ali below.

We have been asked to review the Franklin Convertible Cotbed by Mamas & Papas.

What is it?

The Franklin cotbed is a cot that we can convert into a toddler bed when the time comes. It is also part of the Franklin furniture collection so there are matching pieces. Available in white or grey, and supplied to us with the pocket spring mattress. (You choose this separately!)

The cotbed is completed with added storage space underneath the cot, in the form of a large drawer. The drawer also has added soft close features – perfect for quiet organizing!

The matt, wood effect finish its super soft and really subtle. This style of cotbed should see our youngest baby all the way through from a tiny baby up to four years old, which is exactly what we were looking for.Ali Parent Approved Franklin Cotbed ReviewAli Parent Approved Franklin Cotbed Review

What do we think?

It’s a solid design, that came flat packed and was assembled in an afternoon by my husband. The cotbed has two sleeping heights. Marlow has been pulling himself up since he was four months old, so we opted for the lower setting straight away.

Its long, longer than I had anticipated. So we had to move a few things around fit it in his room. I would recommend you double check the dimensions of this before ordering, as it might come up bigger than a traditional cot. This however solidifies the longevity of the product for us!

The sleeping area is huge, we have been used to a very small hand me dow cot. This cot seems massive in comparison, and I love that. Not only does my baby look extra cute in there, but I know this will last him well onto those toddler years. This is something that we knew we needed for him.

The end panels are solid wood and have a rail either end for blankets and sleeping bags, another design feature I love! It’s the sort of thoughtful thing that Mamas & Papas are famous for. Marlow also finds them a convenient height to hold onto now he is cruising around his room.

The drawer that pulls out currently houses Marlow’s secret stash of toys that he wants to keep away from his big brother. We love to open the drawer and choose a few things to play with from there. The soft close feature is genius, as we all know babies will wake up at the slightest sound.

When the big day comes and he doesn’t need the side anymore, you can remove the side panel and it will instantly be converted into a day bed. So simple. So effective. Then to convert to a toddler bed, some slight adjustments need to be made to the set up, but my husband tells me it should be an easy job. (As you can tell I’m not a fan of assembling flat pack furniture!)

We love that we have something so solid but also so luxurious for our second baby, especially since he lives in a world of hand me downs and seconds from his older brother. I also know if we go on to have a third baby that this will last the course.

We also love the pocket spring mattress. I know that when he is bigger and is in the toddler years that this will give him the extra support and comfort that he will need. Because toddlers need help sleeping too. So, I think you need the best quality mattress for them.

Only issue has been that Marlow has bitten the sides. He has had 8 teeth since he was 7 months old and he sinks them into everything. Mamas & Papas were so helpful and sent me a replacement side, and have ordered me some guards to go on the side for future protection. I think guards is essential with all cots, because when they are teething they bite everything!
